| Why not portrait photography? Photography is fine. I’m not knocking photography. A good photographer is an artist in his or her own right. As a matter of fact, I think photographs are critical as references for a good fine art portrait, and I use photographs without apology.
Photographs are just another tool that many artist use to create their works of art. A portrait artist can capture the essence and character of a person or animal at a moment in time. The twinkle in the eyes, the cute smile that shows character, the messy hair that may characterize a young child. These can be captured through the artist eyes, but can not always be captured through a camera lens. It’s the subtle little things or big things that can be added or deleted by the artist that makes a fine art portrait unique and special. |
